Pretzel Logic Yoga was established in 1998 in Winston-Salem, NC. While yoga teachers were already offering classes at some locations, there was not yet a stand-alone yoga studio.

The burgeoning popularity of yoga caught the eye of the local media. The Winston-Salem Journal published a large, prominent article in December 1997 regarding just this subject and noted that while power yoga was moving east from California, it had failed to take hold much east of Memphis.

Pretzel Logic opened at our present location in April 1998.

Pretzel Logic reverbs for me, Deb Lazer, in several different ways. I am a Steely Dan fan from back in the day, and the phrase connotes interest not only in music. My teacher's name is Pretzel and incorporating her name into the name of my studio felt like a way of honoring her, of acknowledging her place in my growth. Then there is my incorrigible left-brainedness - a search for explanations that make sense - the ultimate in jnana Yoga.

Pretzel Logic offers open, all-level practice. In our classes, you may find a complete beginner on a mat next to a yoga student of many years. It is my belief that since we are all beginners; since many of us are visual learners; and because in yoga, competition is diminished, we are able to look at our fellow students for guidance without comparison.

Students of long-standing will take newer yogis under a wing to offer tips on the physical journey. This is the ultimate union in a yoga class and you will find it here at Pretzel Logic.
